How to choose a gym correctly?

Well, we may be biased... After all, we have the best gym in Herzliya Pituach, yes?! (What modesty huh?🤣) but regardless of us, here is a short guide that will help you to choose a gym correctly and in accordance with your needs.

Choosing the right gym for you is more about comfort; It's about finding a place where you can make a commitment to yourself for your fitness and nutrition journey.

Here are some important questions you should ask yourself:

  1. Convenience of the gym location - It is very important that you are comfortable arriving. A gym close to home or work will reduce the chance of not coming and will allow you to easily integrate the gym into your daily routine.
  2. Equipment and instruments - A well-equipped gym will help you maintain diversity and effectiveness in your training. Make sure there is at least one cage (for squats, chest presses, etc.), a bench for chest presses and enough bars and plates. Beyond that, machines are a matter of personal taste and preference, but usually a chest press machine, rowing machine, poly (the machine with the cables), treadmills, bikes and stairs will do the job.
  3. Professional staff - It is important that you have someone to turn to if you need specific help with a certain exercise or perhaps to understand how to work with a machine you are not familiar with. Of course, this is not a substitute for a personal trainer or one-on-one personal training, but it is really important to have a professional to guide you if necessary.
  4. atmosphere - Here it's a matter of personal preference, maybe you like big gyms with loud music and flashy neon lighting, or maybe a clean CrossFit style gym, or a boutique gym that's smaller and nicer with less noise and clutter. The best way is to just come and see for yourself.   5. Price and commitment - Here too it is a relative matter and depends on what you are looking for. You can find commercial gyms like Spice and Icon whose price is significantly lower compared to other gyms, or maybe you are looking for something of higher quality that will usually cost you more. Do the math and see what suits you. Beyond that, you need to check what the cancellation conditions are, is the subscription for a year in advance? What happens if you want to cancel, cancellation fees, etc.
    At Nix Gym, for example, the pricing is not cheap (not even that expensive to be honest and depends on the type of subscription, but for example a gym subscription is NIS 399 per month - as of this writing) and the cancellation conditions are simple by giving a month's advance notice.
 
Here are some options in Herzliya:
  • Peleg Gym: one of the oldest gyms in Herzliya, existing since 1983, an "old school" gym, focuses mainly on those looking for a bodybuilding atmosphere like the old days. A great place if you connect to the section.
  • Holmes Place: a gym that is also a "Wellness Center" including a spa, a large gym and classes. Located in Beit Ampa.
  • EMS Club: The EMS method is a technology that enables training by simultaneously activating all the muscles of the body with the help of electrical pulses, technically it is not really a gym but it is a different concept. 
  • Publica City Club: Located right next to us in the Yisrotel Hotel on Abba Even Street (we are one junction ahead west towards the sea), the place offers a fully equipped gym, a boxing ring and a variety of classes.

No matter which option you choose, you will have free access to the gym during all operating hours, so you can come and do some aerobics, cycling, or just work out alone at your leisure.
